A mum who lost a finger in the Manchester Arena blast was saved by her phone as it deflected a steel nut hurtling towards her. The iPhone, which absorbed most of the impact, was completely destroyed – before the missile came to rest in Lisa Bridgett’s nose.
If Lisa, 45, wasn’t on the phone at the time, the nut could have ended up in her head. It chopped off her middle finger, bounced off the phone and hit her cheek, before landing in her nose.
Lisa’s husband Steve spoke of how lucky his wife was to be alive following the terror attack.
In a Facebook post, he said: “
Lisa is in a positive mood and feels very lucky to be alive, witnessing first hand what could of been.
“She has suffered multiple injuries, including losing the middle finger from her left hand, which was caused by a steel nut that hit her finger then into her phone and eventually coming to rest in her nose.
“She has a fractured ankle caused by shrapnel, and also a large bullet hole wound to her thigh. “Other cuts and bruises as you can well imagine. The fact she was on her phone at the time probably saved her life as the nut has hit her phone, which has more than likely not only diverted it, but also slowed it down considerably.
“Her nose is fine as the nut entered through her cheek, so just a scar to deal with.”
Lisa, a manager of a boatyard in Pwllheli, north Wales, was at the concert with her daughter and her daughter’s friend.
She had surgery on Tuesday and was due to have another operation after suffering multiple injuries, including a fractured ankle and a large wound on her thigh.
