Russian Ironman athlete apologises for breaking ex-wife’s nose by giving her flowers on live television. A Russian athlete issued a grovelling apology to his ex-wife live on TV as he faced being prosecuted for beating her in front of their son.
Roman Paramonov's former partner Nadezhda Semenyuk branded him a serial abuser on popular Russian talk show Let Them Speak. In one horrifying attack the Ironman triathlete hit his ex's face so hard that he left her with a broken nose, brain concussion and multiple bruises.
Pro-cyclist Ms Semenyuk featured on the show shortly after the brutal beating, with a bandage over her nose and two huge black eyes. She went on with the sole intention to shame her ex, recalling the horrifying incident in front of cameras.
She said she was at the stadium with her son Ivan where Paramonov was training when he assaulted her.
Footage shows her lying dazed on the ground after the assault as paramedics rushed around her. She claimed the stadium's security guard did not call her an ambulance or police.
Paramonov reportedly attacked Ms Semenyuk after he became furious when she started a relationship with another man after their divorce. The case shocked Russia - and sent Paramonov into hiding before he tried to win back his fans on the Russian talk show.
After a long public conversation on the show, Paramonov admitted his wrongdoing and stresses he would be glad to pay for it.
Presenting flowers to his ex-wife he said: "I am guilty that I raised a hand on the woman I love and the mother of my children."
Local police are investigating and it seems likely that he will be charged with abuse.
